Hey guys, I’m thrilled to share my recent journey with the Undalup Association Inc. and the Lower Blackwood LCDC as we explored the breathtaking Boodja (Country) together. Our adventure led us to Wadandi Boodja, the Saltwater People’s Country, where we learned how to show respect to the land and listen to its stories, just as she Hongi Birak (Talks of the Season).

What made this experience truly special was gaining insight into the significance of caring for our country and working towards a respectful future. It was a journey of discovery, rich in cultural heritage, and deeply connected to the land.

The Wadandi People, with their profound connection to the South West and its abundant resources, possess invaluable wisdom passed down through generations. Their “Caring for Country” principles, deeply rooted in Aboriginal lore, guide them in protecting and nurturing the land they hold dear.

What I found most inspiring was how Aboriginal heritage is intricately woven into the natural environment. It’s a reminder that the land is not just a backdrop; it’s a living, breathing entity that we must respect and cherish.

But there’s even more to this story. Beyond the lessons of respect and stewardship, these principles have a profound impact on various businesses, including startups. Many new enterprises, like the one I’m a part of, have recognized the importance of incorporating local and indigenous elements to honour the land and its cultural significance.

Through partnerships with licensed foragers, our startup and others like us can not only access a diverse array of unique ingredients but also support local businesses and individuals dedicated to preserving the natural environment. This collaboration fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility for the land and its resources.

So, as we prepare to launch our startup and embrace the spirit of Boodja, let’s make a promise to be stewards of the land. Let’s continue to support those who help us do so responsibly and create exceptional products that honour the land and its stories.

In closing, kudos to the Undalup Association Inc. for leading the way and sharing their knowledge with all of us. Let’s keep listening to the Boodja, walking softly on this beautiful Country, and keeping our promise to respect and care for the land as we embark on our startup journey.

Cheers, Bec
